South Beach Languages was established in 2003 by English teachers and is locally owned and operated. We teach ‘American’ English & ‘Latin American’ Spanish.

Our teachers and staff are very professional, friendly and accessible to students. We can help you find the right place to stay and best activities while you are in Miami.

Our center is a charming ‘Art Deco’ style building, one block from the ocean, which has been featured on CSI Miami, El Clon, and Transporter 2.

227 9th Street, between Washington Avenue & Collins Avenue in South Beach, Miami Beach.

When do classes start?
Students can start English classes every Monday. Spanish classes start every 6 weeks..

When are the office hours? 
Mondays to Thursdays 9am-6pm. Fridays 10am-2pm.

Who are the teachers?
Dynamic, experienced, native-speakers. We understand that your teacher is the most important element of your learning experience, so we recruit the best language teachers available.

What is the Learning Approach/Methodology?

Communicative language teaching (CLT) emphasizes interaction as the means and the goal of learning a language. With CLT:
-Students learn grammar, vocabulary and other skills through context.
-Students learn by ‘immersion’, studying English with native English speakers (or Spanish with native Spanish speakers).
-Students must communicate with their teachers and classmates in target language.
-Lessons include pair or group activities.
-Teachers connect classroom learning with practical activities outside of the classroom.

What is covered in the classes?
Classes are a mix of conversation, grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing & pronunciation.

Are there quizzes/tests? 

Quizzes are given weekly. Final tests are given for each level in the last week of class. Classes are pass/fail. Students with an overall grade of 70% or higher can progress to the next level.

How long is each level? 
English 12 weeks.
Spanish 6 weeks.

Are there certificates?
Yes, certificates are given on the final day of class.

How many levels?
English: 7 levels including College Prep and additional courses such as TOEFL Prep and Business English.
Spanish: 3 levels

How do I know my level?

Verbal & written placement testing will be given before the first class.

What are the ages of the students? 
Adults of all ages (over 16 years).

How do I register? 
On our website using paypal, over the phone, or in our center (credit card card, check or cash accepted).

Are there registration fees or other extra costs?
No registration fees for local English or Spanish students.
There is a registration processing fee only for International students registering for the I-20 form.

Where do I park my car? 
Free street parking weekdays, west of Washington Avenue (decals needed only at night) OR public garage on 7th Street (between Washington & Collins).

Where do I park my bike?
Bring it inside the school or lock it next to the school.

Can I bring my computer?
Yes, free wireless. Free use of computers for students.

What are the observed Holidays?
January: Martin Luther King Day. May: Memorial Day. July: July 4th. September: Labor Day. October: Colombus Day. November: Thanksgiving. December: Period between Christmas and New Years (dates vary by year).

What is the refund/cancellation policy?
For Spanish or non-F1 English students, a full refund is given prior to the first day of class. After the class period begins, ‘credit’ is given within the first 2 weeks for students who must drop the class. Credit is good for 6 months from the start of the initial class. After the 3rd week, no credit is given. Students can not ‘make up’ missed classes at a later date.

For F1 English students, if your visa is ‘denied’, your tuition (except application fee, express mail fee, Sevis fee) will be refunded upon request with proof of denial. Students who are ‘accepted’ and withdraw on their own do not qualify for refunds.

For F1 English students, if you are terminated by South Beach Languages due to violations of the school or federal law (including attendance policies), no refund will be given.

For continuing F1 English students, late payment fee of $50 per week.

For all students who pay by check, students must wait until check clears to enter classroom. Returned check fee $50

For all students, refund requests must be submitted in writing along with original receipt.

For all students who elect to ‘pay in advance’ for multiple months to receive a discount, there are no refunds for early withdrawal.
